My 3.0 USB port now works (not sure why as I still have error codes in device manager). I reinstalled the drivers for the following but this time let windows search online instead of manually installing and after several generic drivers were installed the port works and I'm currently using my adaptor and two external HDs.

I am having the same issue with my Sony Vaio SVE115190X. I was able to reinstall the drivers for the Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller and the Intel(R) USB 3.0 Root Hub however the 3.0 port is still listed as an Unknown Device under Other Devices with Properties stating it's location is on the Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E59 with the following error messages:
